Brian Carlock is Executive Vice President for Hillwood Communities, where he leads the sourcing, entitlement, evaluation, and acquisition of some of the largest, most complex, and most successful master-planned communities in Texas.

Over more than 25 years at Hillwood, Brian has played a central role in the acquisition, planning, and development of a portfolio totaling over 26,000 acres, representing more than 50,000 residential lots across over 40 master-planned communities in multiple Texas markets. While Brian was directly involved in the hands-on infrastructure development of communities earlier in his career, his role has evolved to focus on senior leadership, strategy, growth and oversight. Several communities within this portfolio have become among the most highly awarded master-planned communities in Texas and the United States.

The distinguishing feature of Brian’s work is his ability to orchestrate complex, long-term community development. His leadership spans sourcing and evaluating opportunities, structuring initial financing, guiding master planning and design vision, navigating zoning and entitlements, forming public-private partnerships, coordinating infrastructure and municipal priorities, and cultivating strong relationships with homebuilders, brokers, political leaders, and development partners. These efforts support communities with 10- to 20-year development horizons, requiring sustained leadership, collaboration, and disciplined execution.

Brian joined Hillwood Communities in 2000. A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, he holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering and served as an officer on active duty in the U.S. Army for seven years. His military experience laid a foundation in leadership, strategic planning, and disciplined execution that continues to guide his work.

Brian is deeply engaged in civic and nonprofit leadership. He serves on several boards and committees which include the Presbyterian Night Shelter, the largest homeless shelter in North Texas, and Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth.

 Brian and his wife have been married for 33 years and have three adult children.
