Tanya Matzen, VP of Operations with Brookfield Properties Development, has championed significant growth in the real estate industry during her 20-year career. She spearheads the vision for the land acquisition, entitlement strategy, builder segmentation, sustainable development and commercial/residential integration for two of the Triangle’s top-selling master-planned communities – Briar Chapel in Chapel Hill and Wendell Falls in Wendell. Her passion is creating the livable, walkable, shoppable, dine-able atmospheres that identify both communities.

Prior to her time with Brookfield, Tanya held various leadership positions in homebuilding driving land acquisition strategies for national production homebuilders to secure lot inventory and increased growth. A southern CA native and UCLA graduate, Tanya moved to North Carolina in 2003 seeking a better quality of life away from the 405 freeway. When not guiding the vision of Brookfield’s large-scale mixed-use developments, Tanya can be found at home in Apex with her husband and 3 children who keep her busy as a football mom, soccer mom and dance mom.  

Tanya has spoken on panels for continuing real estate education as a Broker-In-Charge and real estate professional, is active in ULI facilitating communication and collaboration between community officials and developers, serves with the Women’s Housing Leadership Group, a collaboration of female executives across all real estate disciplines in the U.S. and is a member of the Raleigh Chamber’s EDGE program spearheading economic development for Raleigh, Wake County and the region.
